Fred LeDuca borrowed $1,000 from a family friend and opened a sandwich shop in Connecticut. A few years later, he was operating a sandwich business known as Subway. He was 17 when he got started.
Don't tell me that teenagers are the future of the church. Don't tell me that "one day" they will be able to do something for the Kingdom. I know teenagers who are more passionate about Jesus and more committed to His church than a lot of 50 year old deacons who have been in church for 50 years.
If teenagers can go to school, play college football, compete in the Olympics, solve complex math problems, join the army, and babysit a young child, they are capable of doing something radical for Christ. If God could use an 8 year old king, a teenager to defeat a giant, and an unwed teenage girl to become the earthly mother of Jesus, he can do great things in the lives of students.
That's one reason I enjoy speaking to students. And it's one reason why we take student ministry seriously and have big plans for that area. It's why we want students serving on Sunday mornings, not just adults. Students are not the future of the church...they are the present.
YES!!! My 17 year old has just recently started his own business (diversified between marketing promotions, graphic/logo design, and website design)!! My 15 year old writes a blog ( http://mattw23.wordpress.com )and is being called into ministry (and is acting on it!!). They are no different than other teens except that someone believed in and encouraged them and did not expect too little. When we allow kids to step out, it's amazing what they can do!!!
