Real National Champions

Because I don't like Florida very much, I created a new blog today.  Visit RealNationalChampions to find out who should really be College Football National Champs.

National Champions!

Yea, so I know Florida beat Ohio State last night.  But they are not the real national champions.  And my rooting for FSU has nothing to do with this unbiased statement. :)

Florida lost a game to Auburn (who lost to Georgia, who lost to Kentucky).  Boise State finished the season 13-0 and won their bowl game.  I hearby choose to recognize Boise State and not Florida as the legitimate national champions!

Go Buckeyes

I graduated from FSU.  So if you can't root for a Seminole victory, you at least pull for a Florida loss.  I don't buy any of that root for your state, or pull for the SEC crap. 

I was there when Charlie Ward won the Heisman and suffered through a couple of the wide rights.  I was there when we won a National Championship.  Though my in-laws are trying to sway my kids over to the dark side by teaching them the Gator chomp, I'm trying to instill the tomahawk early.

Anyway, after a good staff meeting tonight, I'm sitting on my couch with a bowl of cereal to pull for Ohio State.  They just ran back the opening kickoff.  7-0 Buckeyes! 

Fantasy Football Update

I was in 2 fantasy leagues this year.  In one of them, where I had the top draft pick, I finished in the middle of the pack.  In the other, with some random guys I don't know, I made it to the final game, which ended tonight.  In that final game, I tied the BeerChuggers.  A tie in the final game!  But I will lose because his bench outscored mine.

I would have won had Willie Parker had 1 more rushing yard.  Just one.  Or Alge Crumpler had 1 more receiving yard.  So I lost the fantasy football super bowl by one yard.

Oh well.  So it goes.

Football Thoughts

• I watched the Cowboys/Giants game today.  Why is Jeremy Shockey always angry?  And why does Terrell Owens drop so many passes. 
• My fantasy football team lost again.  My QB and kicker actually had negative points.  Here's looking ahead to next year. 
• The BSC selection show is terrible.  You would think they could find a guy that didn't have laryngitis to talk on national TV. 
• On one hand, I hope Ohio State loses the National Championship game so there can be more controversy and we can have a playoff system.  Everyone agrees a playoff is best, but until they figure out how to keep money in people's pockets, it won't change.  But I am a FSU grad, so I just can't root for Florida.  Michigan deserves to play in that game. They lost to the top ranked team barely.  Florida lost to multiple loss Auburn team.  Why would you leave this up to voting and computers?

Bowl Games

I can't wait for bowl games.  I am definitely going to Tivo the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on December 19.

Fantasy Update

I'm 3-2 in my league and in second place.  I'm winning 77-10 so far today thanks to Tory Holt and Matt Hasslebeck, because the cupcake I am playing this week didn't set his lineup and has 5 starters on a bye week.  I would have won anyway I guess.

Bobby Bowden Should Retire

I graduated from FSU in 1996, when the Seminoles were a good football team.  So far this year, we barely beat Troy and have lost to Clemson and now NC State (who lost to Akron)  I am a huge Bobby Bowden fan, but I am joining with many others and hoping for retirement. Ride off into the sunset.

Seminoles

After eating at the new Moe's in Cartersville (pretty good), Jennie and I went to see Gridiron Gang (pretty good too).  I got home to watch the last half of a couple of games and saw the Noles lose it in the end.  I graduated from FSU in 1996 and was there in the day of Warrick Dunn, Derrick Brooks, and Charlie Ward.  I watched Ward win the Heisman.  Over the last five years, the team hasn't been that good, and as much as I love Bobby Bowden, I think it's time for a dadgum change.

I think they need to bring back Mark Richt and make him the head coach.  He's the one that orchestrated that offense in the 90's, and he could lead FSU back to 12 top five finishes.

Kickers

So the backup punter for a college school really wanted the job.  What did he do?  Wait for it....

Try stabbing the starting punter in the leg.  It's true.  Yep, that's a sure way to get a promotion.  Or more likely, arrested, suspended from the team and expelled from school, which is what happened.

No wonder football players really don't like kickers.
